Instagram Transcript
An Instagram transcript is the text version of spoken words in a Reel. Paste a public URL above to extract captions with timestamps, then copy or download as SRT/TXT.
Instagram offers two types of captions: user-uploaded captions that creators add manually, and auto-generated captions that Instagram creates from the audio. When you share a Reel, you get a public URL like instagram.com/reel/ABC123 that anyone can view. Our tool reads the caption data from that public URL and formats it as readable text with precise timestamps. Unlike watching the Reel and manually typing what you hear, this gives you accurate text in seconds. The output matches exactly what appears as captions in the video, preserving the original timing and text breaks.
How It Works
Getting an Instagram transcript takes three steps and works entirely in your browser:
- Copy the URL — Open Instagram, find the Reel you want to transcribe, tap the share icon, and copy the link. The URL should look like instagram.com/reel/... or instagram.com/p/...
- Paste and submit — Paste the URL into the form above and click Get Transcript. We'll check for available caption data and extract it if present.
- Get your transcript — Once extracted, you can copy the text to clipboard, download an SRT file for video editing software, or save as TXT for simple reading. All formats include timestamps.
Output Formats Explained
SRT (SubRip Subtitle) files contain timing codes like 00:00:01,234 that video editing software uses to sync text with video. Import them into Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or any editor that supports subtitles. TXT files give you timestamped plain text — easier to read, search, or paste into documents. Both formats preserve the original timing from Instagram's caption data. One-click copy puts the timestamped text on your clipboard for quick pasting.
What Works and What Doesn't
We can only extract captions that exist on the video. If the creator didn't add captions and Instagram hasn't auto-generated them, you'll see 'No public captions for this URL.' Private accounts won't work — the profile must be public. Instagram Stories don't have persistent caption data like Reels, so they're not supported. The free tier gives you 3 transcripts per day tracked via browser cookie. For more volume, Starter ($9/month) offers 100 per month, Pro ($19/month) is unlimited with chapter detection and hook identification, and Pack ($5 one-time) gives 50 that never expire.
Why Extract Instagram Transcripts
Content creators use transcripts to repurpose spoken content into blog posts, tweet threads, or newsletter content without retyping everything. Social media managers analyze competitor content to understand what messaging resonates. Researchers and journalists capture quotes accurately without repeated rewatching. Accessibility advocates verify that Reels have proper captions. Language learners read along with native speakers. The common thread: getting text from video faster than manual transcription.
