Instagram Video Transcript

Get text transcripts from Instagram video URLs. We support both /reel/ URLs for Reels and /p/ URLs for feed video posts. Paste any public video link above.

Instagram hosts videos in two main formats: Reels (short-form vertical video) and feed posts (the original video format that appears in your grid). The URL patterns differ: Reels use instagram.com/reel/[code] while feed videos use instagram.com/p/[code]. Our tool detects both patterns automatically and extracts captions from either format. Feed videos and Reels handle captions differently — Reels have more consistent auto-caption support, while older feed videos may not have caption data available. If captions exist on the video, we'll extract them.

How It Works

Converting an Instagram video link to text works the same for both URL types:

  1. Copy the URLGet the video URL by tapping share and copying the link. It will be either instagram.com/reel/... for Reels or instagram.com/p/... for feed posts.
  2. Paste and submitPaste the URL in the form and submit. We detect the video type automatically and check for available caption data.
  3. Get your transcriptView the transcript with timestamps. Download as SRT for editing software, TXT for documents, or copy directly to clipboard.

Transcript Output Formats

Regardless of whether the source is a Reel or feed video, you get the same output options. SRT files with timing codes work in any professional video editor. TXT files provide readable timestamped text for documentation or note-taking. Clipboard copy gives you instant access to paste anywhere. Timestamps are formatted consistently even when the source video has inconsistent caption timing.

URL Patterns and Limitations

We detect instagram.com/reel/, instagram.com/reels/, and instagram.com/p/ URLs automatically. The /p/ pattern covers feed videos, carousel posts with video, and IGTV content. Not all Instagram videos have captions — older videos, music-only content, and videos where creators disabled captions will return no results. IGTV long-form content may work if captions exist but our focus is short-form. Stories are not supported as they lack persistent caption data.

When You Need Video Transcripts

Transcripts enable content repurposing: turn a viral video into a blog post, extract quotes for graphics, or document what was said for reference. They're essential for accessibility verification — checking that videos have proper captions. SEO teams extract transcripts to understand what content performs well. Creators pull transcripts from their own videos to reuse scripts without manual typing.
